Jim Jarmusch directs this rock documentary featuring Neil Young and his band Crazy Horse on tour in 1996. As well as concert performances, Jarmusch includes behind-the-scenes footage and interviews filmed between 1976 and 1986. Tracks include 'Like a Hurricane', 'Tonight's the Night' and 'Chief Crazy Horse'.

Longtime Neil Young producer, the late David Briggs, came up with the idea for the film, and the title refers to a comment he made to the singer shortly before his death: 'this is the year of the horse. All you have to do now is get closer and closer to the source. Keep getting purer and purer.'
