Originally issued only in Japan in the early 70s, this live set captures US jazz/soul/funk god Roy Ayers before polish and crossover ease took hold. There's no easing in here. The band hits the stage already moving, Ayers driving straight at the groove with clipped and physical intent. Part of the record's pull lies in its scarcity and context - it's one of the earliest releases under the Ubiquity name and among the few documents of Ayers in full live flow. 'Daddy Bug' burns with nervous energy, 'In A Silent Way' drifts into psychedelic looseness, while 'Move To Groove' snaps tight around Harry Whitaker's vocal. 'A Cup Of Tea' keeps shifting shape. The sound is hungry, exposed, and exhilarating throughout.
