'Standard Coltrane' was recorded in a single session in July 1958 by John Coltrane with support by top musicians Wilbur Harden (trumpet), Red Garland (piano), Paul Chambers (bass)and Jimmy Cobb (drums). There are four long tracks (each between 6 and 10 minutes) mainly drawn from Broadway musicals, obscure enough so they are not recognisable to the average listener (especially not nowadays).
The Prestige label era Coltrane is much more accessible than his Atlantic/Impulse work that commenced with Giant Steps in 1960.
