If Who Killed... was the intro, Tired of Hanging Around was the get-to-know: brimming with the kind of bruised-night-out confessionals the first record seemed to sketch out, but not quite deliver on. It stormed to the number two spot in 2006, pairing their native Merseyside swagger with northern soul propulsion: 'Why Won't You Give Me Your Love?' hit with onomatopeic soul thwack, while 'Valerie' - later immortalised and popularly veiled over by Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse's cover version - showed both gift and grift in Dave McCabe's songwriting. There's self-reproach in the lyrics, born of touring excess and hard lessons, but the arrangements are all but dour.
