Recorded across Ethiopia's fertile hotel-band era, this collection places saxophonist and arranger Tilaye Gebre at the centre of a scene he quietly shaped. Based in Addis Ababa during the late 60s and 70s, Gebre was a founding member of the Equators, later the Dahlak Band, and a key figure in the city's nightly circuit, where soul, funk and Ethiopian song forms freely crossed. The performances move with patience and depth. 'Tizita' carries a slow, aching weight, Gebre's saxophone phrasing both tender and restrained, while 'Tsigereda' and 'Alichalikumi' lean into warmer, rhythm-led flow. Across the set, his arrangements give space for groove to stretch and bend, sometimes drifting into hazy, psychedelic edges. Long hard to hear, this music now sounds vivid, assured and deeply lived-in.
