Brazil has always been a font of musical innovation and this album from 1976 remains one of its most dazzling, though rather hidden delights. Created by husband-and-wife duo Eduardo Araujo and Silvinha, Sou Filho Desse Chao fuses regional Bahian rhythms with funk, soul, rock and psychedelia into an adventurous blend that has been championed by tastemakers like Floating Points and sampled by Madlib on 'Sao Paulo.' The original sounds were inspired by travels to Salvador and bridge capoeira energies and Afro-Brazilian spirituality with Rio and Sao Paulo's Tropicalia and Black Rio scenes. It's a kaleidoscopic listen that, after this reissue, should no longer remain so underrated.
