Released in 1990, Digital Underground's debut arrives with rubbery funk bass, jazzy keys and a sense of humour that hip-hop didn't always allow itself at the time. It's led by Shock G and his famously absurd alter ego Humpty Hump, the group lean into P-Funk mischief while keeping the beats taut. 'The Humpty Dance' struts in with cartoon swagger, then 'Doowutchyalike' and 'Freaks Of The Industry' revel in playful chaos. Elsewhere, 'Rhymin' On The Funk' and 'The Danger Zone' keep the groove locked with warm synths and elastic basslines. It's cheeky and full of personality.
