Paul Ngozi was one of the most musically and lyrically powerful of Zamrock’s trailblazers. 1977’s The Ghetto displayed these two traits equally well, the prerequisites of the genre - garage rock rhythms and heavily distorted psych guitar – a vehicle for critiquing Africa's economically stricken townships. It also goes much further outside Western comparisons than a lot of Zamrock, influenced by early funk and featuring lyrics in Zambia's indigenous language.
