The legendary Sam Dees recorded his first single in 1968 for Shelby Singleton’s ‘SSS International’ label featured here – “Lonely For You Baby”. Despite many attemtps at solo success, on an array of labels, Dees was destined to failure finally settling for a career writing for other artists. However, the first is usually the best, and eventually “Lonely For You Baby” was embraced by the UK soul scene and remains a floor-packing anthem. We also feature the unissued, at the time, original take with the distinctive vocal count-in.
