From the screamers of the '60s were borne the swingers of the '70s, funk grew into disco and the blues grew into soul. Here we have a tribute to two female singers of the '70s whose music captured the excitement of the time without betraying the roots of blues and soul from where they came. Staple fodder for DJs year in year out since first released back in '76, Esther Williams 'Last Night' is such a classic that it's very likely to have been played in every soul & funk club in the world. This highly versatile track is usually played off either the original 12", the LP or from dodgy bootlegs.

The 7" version officially re-released here differs in that it doesn't have the trademark telephone ring over the introductory drum break. Esther remembers she was having a great time during the recording of the LP and this track in particular. She also adds that she made two versions so the DJs and trainspotters would buy the record twice.
