On his first full-length collection since 2022 debut LP Boy, Harvey Sutherland is in a typically playful mood even if the set's title, Debt, hints at the Australian's growing worries about the financial pressures on artists and the increasing difficulty in making a living through creative pursuits such as music-making and performance. Stylistically, the tracks on show or at least those available to preview offer a musical evolution of sorts, with the Melbourne musician joining the dots between his organic, freewheeling nu-disco and deep house sounds of old, and the slick 'digital disco' style micro-house grooves once associated with the likes of Akufen and Luomo. The results are colourful and entertaining, particularly woozy vocal number 'Body Language' (featuring Julian Hamilton), the lightly Metro Area-inspired 'Nobody Like U' and gorgeous opener 'Cigarette'.
