 Richard Brown's Sweet and Kind was originally released and distributed locally in Gary, Indiana, in the mid-west of USA on the tiny Steeltown Inc Records, a label which despite it's size was nonetheless the first ever to sign the Jackson Five (pre-Motown) in 1968, the same year as this little-known gem.

Soul Jazz Records/Sounds of the Universe continues its SOUL 7-inch series in fine style with this FANTASTIC cut following on from Brief Encounter, Arnold Blair, Johnny Adams & other earlier exclusive soul 45.

Killer Punk-Funk/New Wave 12” featuring the Sao Paulo based group Tetine along with a wicked remix from CSS. Tetine are Bruno Verner and Eliete Mejorado. This is their second release on Soul Jazz Records and is a taster for their forthcoming album Let Your X’s Be Y’s, a wild mix-up of Punk-Funk/New Wave/Post- Punk/Baile-Bass. Integral to the same vibrant Sao Paulo music scene in Brazil that has now produced both CSS and Bonde de Role, Tetine’s music is similarly a mixture of raw punky energy and attitude mixed with bass-heavy dance music. Tetine are in-fact the forerunners of this scene having now released 8 albums in Brazil since they formed in Sao Paulo in 1995. "Tetine was my first inspiration in terms of intellect, presence and their amazing performances. It was right there in front of me but it made such a strong impression I never forgot that was what real music is about: freedom and purity and, of course, in many different ways, FUN! I've never seen something like that coming from Brazil, or actually, anywhere!" Lovefoxx - CSS Constantly exploring the boundaries between music, art, video, performance their infamous live events range from rock gigs to gallery installations. "Tetine are Feminists, un-followers and inventors of their own scene; an uncut diamond. If Art is really dead, then Tetine belong to a "nameless" genre – the makers of something wild, something alive." Chicks On Speed Aside from their own music, Tetine have also been instrumental in bringing the Brazilian underground scene to the general public, having compiled both Funk Carioca (the first ever album of Baile Funk outside of Brazil) and Sexual Life of the Savages (an essential primer to early-80s Post-Punk from Sao Paulo, released on Soul Jazz Records).

Tetine are Brazilian artists/musicians Bruno Verner and Eliete Mejorado and are stars of Sao Paulo's avant garde music scene - uniting electronic music with Brazilian dark sambas, performance art, spoken word, super 8 movies and whatever came into their heads. Their musical influences range from bands such as Throbbing Gristle, Peaches, Tuxedomoon to Kraftwerk, Can, but it also incorporates heavily the more experimental side of Brazilian musicians such as Paulinho Da Viola, Os Mutantes, Chico Buarque or the Tropicalists and Rio Baile Funk artists. Since 2002 they have lived and worked in London. Three years ago they brought Baile Funk to the UK with their Slum Dunk radio show and subsequently with Slum Dunk presents Funk Carioca album. In 2005 they compiled The Sexual Life Of The Savages for Soul Jazz Records - an album of obscure early 80's underground post punk from São Paulo. In 2006 Tetine played at the opening night of TROPICALIA - A Revolution in Brazilian Culture - at Barbican Centre alongside Brazilian multi-artist Assume Vivid Astrofocus.

Osunlade’s star continues to rise - Osunlade,ordained priest in the African religion of Ifa, continues to release deep spiritual nu-soul and house music with African influences. From releasing his first album "Paradigm" on Soul Jazz Records, Osunlade has gone on to numerous remix and production credits (Djinji Brown, Sin Palabras, KB, Incognito, Roy Ayers,) as well as continuing to release his own material. This song "I Don’t Know" was originally one of his first ever releases over 5 years ago and has been unavailable for many years and in demand ever since. Stripped down and reconstructed with new mixes for 2006 as a taster for the forthcoming Yoruba Records retrospective shortly to be released on Soul Jazz Records. Osunlade started Yoruba records in New York and has gone on to release a stream of quality deep house and nu-soul tracks either featuring his own music or productions - many of which have became classics and are very much in demand today. The forthcoming album will include all the full length 12" original mixes as well as a number of unreleased Osunlade gems.

Super-limited (one-pressing only) two-sided 7" sampler taken from Soul Jazz Records forthcoming Brazilian Post- Punk compilation! (sub-titled The Sexual Life of The Savages) As Mercenarias are an all-female equivalent of ESG who hail from Sao Paolo, Brasil and sound like Gang of Four/Pop Group/Slits as well as Le Tigre/Chicks on Speed. Fellini are Brasil’s answer to Joy Division/early New Order. As Mercenarias will be playing in London this year in conjunction with the release of this album.

Super heavyweight 6 track remixes ep from Ammon Contact on Soul Jazz Records sub-label Microsolutions To Microproblems. This is the second release on Soul Jazz Records from Ammon Contact. Featuring remixes and re-constructions from Smyglyssna, Sutekh and Telefon Tel Aviv as well as three new songs from Ammon Contact. Ammon Contact is Carlos Nino and Fabian Contact. As well as Ammon Contact, Carlos Nino is also the producer of Hu Vibrational (also released on Soul Jazz) and Build An Ark (who featured on the Sun Ra tribute album along with Carl Craig, Theo Parrish, IG Culture and more). Smyglyssna (from Sweden) has earlier releases on Plug Research, Vertical Form and Background. San Francisco-based Sutekh has releases on Soul Jazz, Context, Orthlong Music and many more. Telefon Tel Aviv have just released an album on Hefty Records. This epic track is their first new material since then and features John Herndon (from Tortoise) on drums and was recorded in Chicago last month.

This Yoruba Records release is a heavyweight slice of Deep Latin House featuring the Cuban group Sin Palabras and produced by Osunlade. The AA-side features remix by John Beltran. Since Soul Jazz Records first released Osunlade's Paradigm LP, over two years ago, Osunlade has become one of the most recognised names in dance music and has gone on to work with everyone from Masters at Work to Miss Dynamite."

As Soul Jazz Records continue to delve into the new electronic music coming out of the U.S. with releases by Kit Clayton and Sutekh on their "Microsolutions to Macro Problems" sub-label, they bring you next Ammoncontact. With previous releases on Prefuse 73's own Eastern Development label, Ammoncontact mix left-field Hip-Hop/Electronica/Deep Jazz to bring you truly classic new electronic music. Ammoncontact are Carlos Nino and Fabian Ammon. This Vinyl EP features 6 songs that were recorded in Los Angeles and features friends such as Daedalus and members of the original Tribe Records in Detroit.
