The new Happy People Records ltd. edition 7" series comes from... the Flying Vipers from Boston, Mass with two brand new, world-beating heavyweight dubs! You can't argue with Flea Market Funk when they cited Flying Vipers 2020 debut album - 'Cuttings' as "one of the top reggae records of the year". Recorded and mixed entirely on an antiquated 4-track cassette recorder, it possesses the same rawness, authenticity and grit that dub first used to seduce the world in the 1970's. Two cuts from said album have now been given extra heavy treatment by Dub Fader (10 Ft. Ganja Plant); one a soaring tribute to Bunny Lee, 'The Gorgon Strikes Back', and the flip-side, the ethio-jazz nodding 'Fermented Herbs'. All numbered limited edition of 232 and pressed on HEAVYWEIGHT vinyl.

SymaripThese Boots Are Made For Walking / That's NiceHarlem Shuffle

Issued on 7" vinyl for the first time, this is a licensed release of the song extracted from the Skinhead Moonstomp LP on Trojan Records in 1970, 50 years ago. This is a cracking Boss Reggae cover of Nancy Sinatra's mega hit and a huge early Reggae anthem. Incredibly this very much in demand song has never been released on 7" vinyl up to now!

On the flip That is Nice has only been available on the Skinhead Moonstomp Special Edition CD. This is a Symarip original and it is the complete opposite of These Boots Are Made For Walking. Here the gritty voice of Roy Ellis serves admirably the sad, pensive melody and simple lyrics of this melancholic love ballad. Simply beautiful. A very rare gem and a perfect finish to this outstanding double sider single.

    WitnessMercy GoneFruits Records

Probably one of the most sought-after Jamaican roots reggae tracks by record collectors, ‘MERCY GONE’ is both an obscure and iconic sound system tune. Originally performed by the equally obscure 1NY and Soul Syndicate, 'Mercy Gone' captures the essence of 70s roots reggae: a slow tempo with a bouncing uptempo skank, inventive drumming and a compelling bass line, a raw but powerful sound, and a plaintive voice whose emotion reflects the harsh reality of the sufferer’s life. The 18th Parallel wanted to offer their own version of this classic, an original record that is now unavailable and estimated to be worth thousands of dollars. To do so, the producers found a young singer of only twenty years old with undeniable talent, but still unknown to the public: Witness. Originally from Swaziland, Philisiwe ‘Witness’ Lukhele delivers her own interpretation of ‘Mercy Gone’ on an original riddim by The 18th Parallel. Without trying to identically reproduce the original, Witness and The 18th Parallel offer a powerful and modernised recut that still is faithful to the aesthetics of the Jamaican sound of the 70s. Above all, they finally give sound systems the opportunity to play this anthem, which was previously inaccessible on a 7" single. The icing on the cake on the B-side: one of the most prominent DJs on the current British sound system scene, Mr. Williamz, takes over and mash up the dance! Rewind!

Lone Ark meets The 18th ParallelGet YouFruits Records

Under his artist name LONE ARK, world-renowned musician, producer and sound engineer Roberto Sánchez has teamed up with one of Europe's finest reggae studio bands, THE 18TH PARALLEL, to record 'GET YOU', a new anthem for reggae and dub sound systems: a modern roots reggae production reminiscent of the best years of the Twinkle Brothers, Jah Shaka or Sly & Robbie. On a riddim at the same time heavy and irresistibly dancing, Lone Ark and The 18th Parallel push their listeners to the critical reflection on their way of life and their current consumer habits. A strong message, on a powerful music for a track that cannot be ignored!

    Cornell CampbellHold OnSkankin' Society

The Gorgon in fine style! Back in 2017, Cornell Campbell teamed up with The 18th Parallel to put out the beautiful ‘Lovely Feeling’, a roots reggae 7” reminiscent of Randy’s early 70s sound. A few months later, Cornell and the Swiss band went back in studio to pay another tribute to the Jamaican sound of the 70s. Do you remember ‘Dance in A Greenwich Farm’ or ‘Two Face Rasta’ ? Kingston, 1975. Bunny Lee’s flying cymbals riddims mixed by King Tubby and his big knob, Cornell Campbell’s golden years.
Led by legendary drummer Leroy “Horsemouth” Wallace, The 18th Parallel tried to dive deep into the reggae of 1975 to bring back this feeling on ‘HOLD ON’: flying riddim, choping guitar, heavy filter mix by Roberto Sánchez and the one and only Cornell Campbell himself behind the microphone. Flash it!

Lloyd & GlenMini Skirt And Go Go BootsHarlem Shuffle

    Jamaican Soul Double Header!!

Minni Skirt was initially published in 1967 on the Jamaican Comet label and on the American BRA label and has never been released on vinyl in Europe, until now. Brilliantly produced, this mythic party dancer combines heavy frantic Rhythm and Soul, flamboyant horns, wild screaming vocals with some of the most concise lyrics ever written: Today, this ultrarare track is heavily sought after by many collectors, from early “Reggay” fans, Rude Boys, Skin-heads to Mods, Soulies and 60s collectors.

What You’ve Got was released in 1967 on the WIRL label in Jamaica and on the Doctor Bird label in the U.K as the B side for Feel Good Now, another great track by Lloyd and Glen. It has never been repressed on 7” vinyl since. Complete with a prominent beat and superb horns, the much in demand What You’ve Got is the perfect choice for completing this Jamaican Soul crossover single. Equally rare, a mint copy would be over 300 quid if one can find any!

    CultureThe Nighthawk RecordingsOmnivore Recordings

7 Track EP from Reggae Legend Culture. Includes 4 Previously Unissued Tracks. Liner Notes From Nighthawk Founder / Producer Leroy Jodie Pierson. Culture began recording in 1976 with an early cut of This Time which was only released on an obscure Jamaican single. Composed in response to the state of emergency declared by the Jamaican government in that year, the early recording is a tame and lyrically altered version of the original song as finally presented on this album. “We couldn’t do it in dem time, We gonna give you the real ‘This Time’.” During the late 1970s Culture recorded seven fine albums, three for Joe Gibbs, three for Sonia Pottinger, and one issued in America by April Records, which Joseph Hill regarded as a bootleg. Culture was truly in their prime when they recorded the material included on this album. The first three tracks were recorded in 1981 with backing by the Roots Radics. The remaining tracks were taped in 1983 with backup by The Wailers band. Calling Rastafari, Dem A Payaka, and This Time were all originally included on the 1982 Nighthawk compilation album, Calling Rastafari. Most of the tracks released on the classic, roots reggae compilation, were recorded during a three-day session in 1981 at the Harry J studio in Jamaica. The Culture songs appeared alongside tracks by Gladiators, Mighty Diamonds, Wailing Souls and others, with most of the songs being unique to the album including those by Culture. Can They Run and Mister Musicand their respective Versions were recorded two years after Calling Rastafari was issued and languished in the Nighthawk vaults until the release of this special, limited-edition EP.
